The Piano Bank

Steinway Piano Society’s “Piano Bank” is a free service designed to give economically disadvantaged children (age 6-18) in Southeast Louisiana the opportunity to develop their musical talent by providing a “second life” piano for lessons. The goal of the “Piano Bank” is to reach out to children who otherwise might not get a chance to study piano.

Create an impactful legacy
with the gift that will last a lifetime

The Gift of Music…

It’s a proven fact…. Music makes children happy, healthy and wise! Studies have shown that playing a musical instrument, especially the piano, raises tests scores, makes the brain more efficient and decreases that likelihood that kids will become involved with drugs, alcohol and gangs. Music lessons make kids better students and better citizens. Research also suggests that making music may also help us as we age, by reducing the chances of Alzheimer’s and other age-related diseases.

Investing in a child’s future…

Through the generosity of our donors and a partnership with the New Orleans Foundation for Arts Education, we are able to provide need-based tuition assistance and supply a “second life” piano as well. Piano study can make a lasting impression on a child’s life.

Here’s how it works:

  • Guidelines and criteria sheets are available from area piano teachers or at the Steinway Piano Gallery of New Orleans.
  • Recommendations are made by area piano teachers of students who are motivated but cannot afford piano lessons and/or a piano.
  • Applicants may submit a qualification sheet to the Society for review and consideration.
  • Upon endorsement from the review committee, Steinway Piano Society’s “Piano Bank” may provide funding for lessons, a piano, or both to the deserving student.
  • Quarterly Practice/Report cards from the teacher will be provided to Steinway Piano Society to ensure continued eligibility. As long as the students progress, “Piano Banks” support will continue.
